Was Thomas Tuchel A Wrong Fit for Bayern Munich?

German coach set to leave Munich at the end of the season

His tenure at Bayern Munich is set to end at the end of the season. I believe the word, turbulent, can best describe his time there. Yes, there has been success in some form but it has mostly been a negative period. Probably most/nearly all of the Munich fans will be more than happy to see the back of the manager.

It all began when the Bayern higher ups decided to sack Julian Nagelsman. There was no logical reason why this was necessary. Yes, there were bumps in the road in terms of performances and results but that always happens. They were just a single point behind leaders Borussia Dortmund. They also still remained in the other 2 competitions they regularly participate in: DFB-Pokal (cup) and Champions League quater-finals. They had already won the DFL-Supercup (league winner vs cup winner in the previous season). At the end of his reign, he had a win record of 71.43%. He managed 84 games in all. He won 60 games, drew 14 and lost 10.

Apparently, there was a break in the objectives that had been set for the season (22/23 season). The Bayern higher ups wanted Thomaas Tuchel while he was unattached to any club. The main purpose was clear: win The Chaampions League. The purpose and aim was not met. They were knocked out in the quater-final by eventual winners Man City 4-1 on aggregate. They were additionally knocked out of the DFB-Pokal at the same stage to Freiburg (2-1). A consolition for them was that they won the Bundesliga (league) title - their 11th consecutive title win. However, it is important to point out that they only won it through goal difference.

At the beginning of the current season, everything looked rosy with key signings of defender Kim min-jae and most importantly, Harry Kane. However, it was a bleak start as they lost the DFL-Supercup 3-0 to RB Leipzig. Since then, it has been an up and down campaign.

It has been recent defeats from fellow title contenders Bayer Leverkusen (3-0); a first leg defeat to Italian club Lazio (1-0) in The Champions League and a shock 3-2 loss to Bochum. They also exited the DFB-Pokal (2-1) to a third-tier club FC Saarbrücken in the second round. At the time of writing, they are 8 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the title race.

In terms of replacements, there are three names that have been named: Xabi Alonso, Zinedine Zidane and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Alonso is the red hot favourite to replace Thomas Tuchel. He is currently managing Bayer Leverkusen, who remain unbeaten in the league and set a new record in Germany of 33 games unbeaten. Zidane is well known for his tenures and trophy-laden at Real Madrid. There is nothing to speak of for Solksjaer.

Of the three, I believe that that Bayern will do everything possible to get Alonso. He's the obvious choice. To get Zidane, that will take some persausion. I would like to know what they are smoking if they choose to go for Solksjaer. The latter is very much an amateur in my eyes and not qualified for a club as big as Bayern Munich.

Thomas Tuchel should've never been hired as the manager. The club were just fine without him. Hiring him was just an act of desparation and fear. Tuchel will have other opportunities. It is not like he's on his last chance saloon. Despite the, "failures", his reputation and the trophies he's won won't be ignored.
