As with probably everyone, I was shocked to see the news that Jurgen Klopp is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. It created a shockwave across the footballing world. I would take a guess that it was a dark day for all Liverpool fans. They are seeing perhaps their greatest manager heading for the exit door.
Jurgen Klopp did absolute wonders with this club. When he arrived, he wasn't entering into a dominating team. He arrived with the team in 10th; 1 top 5 finish in 6 seasons and 8 year gap of not reaching the Champions League knockout stages (as per Fabrizio Romano). With Klopp at the helm, he and Liverpool became "grand slam" champions by winning everything possible. The only thing missing from that cabinet is a Europa League title - which could be achieved this season.
Klopp made three signings that significantly altered their fortunes: Mo Salah, Alison Becker and most importantly (to me) Virgil van Dijk. There were other key signings but it was the aforementioned three that helped Liverpool become a dominating force.
Over the past 4 -5 seasons, they have pushed Man City to the limit. Man City had no time to "sit at the beach." They pushed them all the way to the final matchday. It was only one season, when van Dijk was injured for the season, that Liverpool lost sight of Man City.
It could be argued that Klopp revolutionised the club. Sensible transfers were made and every single one played their part. The style of play changed and they were nearly unbreakable. There were banana skin slips on the way such as losing 7 - 2 against Aston Villa and a shock 3 - 0 loss to Watford. They were so strong that they narrowly missed out being the second invincible side by only losing a single league game in the season.
With the impending departure happening soon, there are two questions that needs to be answered: 1) What happens to Jurgen Klopp? and 2) What will come of Liverpool when Klopp leaves? To me, the first question can easily be answered. Jurgen Klopp has stated that he plans on taking a year long hiatus. The next move is the German national coach. This move wouldn't be a shock as he has been constantly linked with the job. If this is in deed the case, he would join Zinedine Zidane in waiting for their respective national coaching role to be made available. The sky is the limit for Jurgen Klopp.
The answer to the second question is quite challenging to answer. There's no telling what will happen. The first thing to consider is who will be in charge. Two names have come up: Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi. Alonso will probably be a fan favourite since he was a Liverpool player at one point. Hence, he might come into the job with a deep understanding of the club and the culture. A downside is that he is relatively new at managing. Despite this, he is currently managing the only unbeaten side in the top five leagues in Bayer Leverkusen. However, the intensity in England is way bigger than in Germany.
The case of De Zerbi is probably quite simple. He obviously has experience in England and he has brought up Brighton from a midtable club to one challenging for Europe. He has brought in an attacking aspect to the club. It could be argued that he is a much better manager than Graham Potter due to performances and final finishing positions.
Regardless of who takes over, they will have massive shoes to fill. There will be a huge level of expectation on him. They are expected to continue what Klopp had started. They must be careful that they don't demolish everything that Klopp had built and cemented.
I don't like saying this but "The normal one" is probably one of the best managers out there. I would be shocked if there isn't a statue built for him outside Anfield and/or a stand being named after him. A true dynasty will end soon. Klopp's future is bright like the sun while Liverpool's one is cloudy and uncertain.
