Jadon Sancho is an English footballer who's career has been on a donward spiral for a while now. Part of this can be attributed to his attitude and behaviour. His latest remark hasn't helped his cause in search of his prime form that he displayed while playing for German club, Borussia Dortmund.
His latest post was a comment made after Rashford sent a thank you message to United fans, "Freedom." This was followed by praying and raised hands emojis. This is reference to Marcus Rashford's loan move from Manchester United to Aston Villa. Sancho, himself, is also on a loan spell from Manchester United. He is playing for Chelsea. As stated above, this was not received well.
His former Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, was left frustrated by Jadon Sancho's attitude long before his bitter falling out with Manchester United.
Sancho is currently on loan at Chelsea from United, with the Blues having an obligation to sign the Englishman for around £25million this summer should they finish 14th or higher in the Premier League. Once one of Europe’s most-coveted prospects at Manchester City and then at Borussia Dortmund, Sancho’s £73 million transfer to United in July 2021 marked a major turning point in his career for all the wrong reasons.
His performances for the Red Devils left plenty to be desired before a clash with previous head coach, Erik ten Hag, saw him frozen out of the team and loaned back to Dortmund in January 2024. Yet, despite patching things up with Ten Hag and moving to Stamford Bridge at the start of this season, it appears the 24-year-old is not ready to forgive and forget just yet.
ESPN reported that City experienced stubbornness from the south Londoner during a contract stand-off when he was just 17 years old. Manager Guardiola then omitted the youngster from their 2017 pre-season tour of America, with Sancho instead being required to attend training sessions at the City Football Academy.
He was said to have failed to turn up on a number of occasions, with coaching staff unable to reach him. By the end of that summer, his relationship with the club was irreparable and he was allowed to leave for Dortmund.
Guardiola, widely considered to be one of the best managers in football history, went on to say in 2019: "I don't know [why Sancho left City]. He didn't want to take this challenge, this opportunity to discover if he was able to [break into the first team]."
Benni McCarthy, who was a first team coach during Ten Hag’s United tenure, further echoed Guardiola and Ten Hag’s issues with Sancho by claiming he refused to apologise to the latter because he didn’t want to develop a reputation as a poor or lazy trainer.
Sancho was able to rekindle some of his form while on loan back at Dortmund last season, helping the German giants reach the Champions League final. However, he is yet to take Stamford Bridge by storm this term, with two goals and six assists in 23 appearances this season.
Sancho started the game against Brighton as a substitute but was introduced to the proceedings early in the first half following an injury to Noni Madueke. Despite his early introduction, it was a night to forget for the winger and his colleagues at Chelsea as they were handily beaten by Brighton this past Friday.
Another sub-par display from the former England international will be seen as further evidence that United and Erik ten Hag made the right decision letting Sancho go. In September 2023, the winger was banished from training after branding himself a 'scapegoat' after Ten Hag expressed that the forward had not been picked to face Arsenal due to his application in training.
Sancho was rushed out on loan in January 2024 to Borussia Dortmund and featured in their Champions League final but the German side didn't have the resources to complete a deal at the end of the season. While Ten Hag was thought to have buried the hatchet with the winger last summer, a loan with an obligation to buy was agreed with Chelsea on deadline day to all but end Sancho's affiliation with the Reds.
However, this did not stop him from stirring the pot recently when he commented: 'Freedom,' underneath Marcus Rashford's Instagram post following his move to Aston Villa on loan this winter.
His most recent goal contribution was at the beginning of January during the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
A quick check of social media will tell you what Chelsea fans think about Jadon Sancho. It felt like agreeing an exit for Sancho could be United's best piece of business of the entire window and this season has shown that was correct, as Sancho has continued to look like a shadow of his former self after a change of scenery and Chelsea fans are now questioning why he was signed.
The German media reported that Borussia Dortmund staff were concerned about Sancho's discipline during his time on the continent and there were off-field concerns during his time in Manchester. Such reports haven't emerged from Chelsea correspondents this season but Sancho's history suggests it might be sooner rather than later that he is brought under the spotlight.
Although Sancho seemed to make a pleasing start to life at Chelsea, he hasn't had the impact that Enzo Maresca hoped and his lacklustre display in the defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round last weekend was the type of performance that United supporters were tired of watching.
Sancho attempted two crosses in the game and both failed to find a team-mate, he didn't have a single shot and he attempted three dribbles and each of those were also unsuccessful.
Maresca hooked Sancho in the 74th minute and his name was trending on social media. "I don't like dragging our own players, but Sancho has been getting away with terrible performances," one Chelsea fan posted. Another fan said: "has Sancho been told not to take any risks."
How familiar does that sound? It has been sad to see Sancho's career regress after following him as such an exciting teenager at Dortmund and maybe he won't ever reach the standard that most predicted. The 24-year-old didn't have what it requires to represent United - it takes a special player to thrive under intense scrutiny - and can still have a fulfilling career but he needs to perform.
There were some suggestions from earlier in the season that United should regret his exit to Chelsea because Sancho had shown some of his pervious verve and they were daft at the time.
Those suggestions look even dafter now Sancho is being questioned by the same Chelsea fans who were bragging about signing him for a cut-price deal. Sancho currently performs like a player who is worth less than £25m and United did brilliantly to arrange a late deal with Chelsea.
United's transfer record is rightly bashed and they made a mistake by signing Sancho but they deserve credit for getting him off the books and agreeing a permanent sale of the winger.
Former Crystal Palace owner, Simon Jordan, has taken aim at Jadon Sancho after the Chelsea winger left a comment on Marcus Rashford's social media. When asked what he thought about the situation, Jordan told talkSPORT: "Not very much to be honest with you. I think what Jadon Sancho has to say is not particularly relevant to Marcus Rashford's situation. I don’t think he’s covered himself in glory."
"He’s had a few decent games for Chelsea but other than that, a few decent games for Dortmund. But his career has gone backwards, he’s responsible for it not anyone else and this is the sort of atypical response from people that always like to align other people with the blame or their current failings."
"I think it's a sad indication of where United have gotten to to think that people can speak about the club in this way. I think the underlying message is that you’re out of the awful place that Man United has become.
"A place that has been created by the culture of players there and I would suggest that players like Jadon Sancho who only like it when they’re told all the good things. They can’t really deal with any home truths or they can’t have any consequences for their actions because if they do, they don’t like it."
Chelsea have been urged to "find a way" to "get rid" of Manchester United outcast, Jadon Sancho, who has been labelled a, "weak little boy." Sancho joined Chelsea during last summer’s transfer window as he left Premier League rivals Man Utd on loan with an obligation to buy. The 24-year-old enjoyed a strong start to this season but his form has dipped in recent months and has received backlash from Chelsea supporters.
Despite this, Sancho has 'burnt bridges' at Man Utd after posting a message to Marcus Rashford after his debut for Aston Villa. Former United defender, Paul Parker, has hit out at Sancho, claiming Chelsea, "must regret having to buy him" this summer.
"Jadon Sancho reminds me of a weak little boy who is using someone else to air his grievances," Parker said. "I hope Rashford is smart enough to stay out of it. Even his PR team should know better than to let him get involved in this nonsense. Sancho is trying to shift focus away from himself but in reality, he should be looking in the mirror.
"It was the wrong timing. Is he still trying to align himself with Rashford? Because Rashford would be foolish to go down that path. Chelsea must be regretting the fact that they have to buy him. They’ll probably be begging United to find a way out of the deal."
"Chelsea will be looking to get rid of him as soon as possible. Finding a club willing to take him will be a challenge. He’s brought this upon himself. I hope Rashford realises that Sancho is trying to drag him into unnecessary problems and tells him to stop. He needs to take a long, hard look at himself."
"At first, I thought he had personal issues with his managers. But they all had the same opinion of him – they didn’t play him. Now, he’s trying to make the club the villain instead."
I saw a post that stated that Sancho is a spoiled brat. I'm afraid that I have to agree with that. He's earning a lot of money a week and he thinks he can do whatever he wants. He's selfish. I agree with Paul Parker. Finding a new club will be difficult. This type of behaviour will follow him where ever he goes.
It sounds like he's going to throw a tantrum when he doesn't get what he wants. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if he retires at an early age.
